An explanation of the signs in Vedic Astrology

Western and Vedic Astrology differ in terms of when a sign starts and ends, mainly because the Vedic system uses a different, constellation-based way of reckoning the signs. I have therefore given the dates for each sign in the Vedic system. So please read your sign using the dates I have provided. Both systems of setting up the horoscope are valid; the dates I indicate below just work better using the techniques from India.

General trends for individual signs:

Aries: April 15-May 14:

This sign will, in general have good financial luck this year and the opportunity to travel. There is also the opportunity for new relationships to start and for slow but steady financial growth for this sign. Unfortunately, home and career life will be challenging and relationship life will be argumentative, although ultimately couples will reconcile well and will fight and overcome common foes together. Through the end of March this sign will experience monetary improvement, but some health issues with female relatives; from March through June, a little detachment from home life, but good luck. Between July and September will be a difficult period for this sign as some problems with elderly male family members will develop; some financial luck and issues over money will increase. Although money will be good throughout the year, there will be increasing involvement in new areas of work and new career options.

Taurus: May 15-June 14

This sign will have a bit of a blessed year and most of its ambitions will be fulfilled. There will be contentment with family and courage to travel and try new things. The sign will experience legal triumphs and victory over enemies, and there will be new contacts in distant lands. Relationship life and career life will be good with unexpected improvements in luck during the year. January through March will shine a spotlight on these individuals and promote recognition. The period from April to June will be good for partnerships and new contacts. July through September will bring financial improvements, luck from partners, and the end of the year will bring unexpected journeys and some additional recognition.

Gemini: June 15-July 14- This sign will find most of its focus on money, health, completion and overwork of relationship partners this year. The placement of the north node in Cancer will cause some family and money issues and Ketu in the 8^th will place some restraints on earnings for relationship partners. This year will, however, be fortunate for children and work and this will be a good year for these things. Through March, there will be some financial issues and frustration in money matters. From April to June, there will be a lot of career luck and increased tension in relationship life—relationship partners will be under a great deal of stress. The period between July and September will provide some interference with income, while October through December will provide smooth acquisition of income and resolution of debts.

Cancer: July 15-August 14: People born under this sign will face unique challenges and opportunities this year, especially when the eclipses of . The lunar nodes are in the first and seventh houses of this sign, making the person dissatisfied and restless-but capable of doing great things—and some relationships issues developing. However, the chart does well for finances and new friend, and there should be good overall luck for this chart from the perspective of children nan overall luck. Most challenges to this sign will come from women, bosses, and legal matters. January through March will be good for increasing financial growth, but with unhappiness with progress around the end of February. The period from April through June will be good for financial progress again, but some legal matters or trouble with government will ensue. The period between July through September will give some obstacles in relationships. Finally, from October through December, 2017 will be a period of financial gains and happiness.

Leo: August 15-September 14: The placement of the lunar nodes and eclipses in the 12^th house of expenses and the sixth house of completion and minor illness will affect this sign significantly this year. The Moon is exalted in the tenth house of career, so career life should be very good this year, as are the potential for new home or increase in savings. The fifth house in the chart is loaded, so a lot of things you have worked for a long time will move forward this year. January through March will be relatively stable, except for mid to late February which will increase expenses. The period from April to June will give financial improvement, good luck, although you will face some unexpected jealousy around June. July to September, except for late August, when some of the jealousy persists, will be favorable for you. October through December will generally be good for career, but watch out for unnecessary expenses around December.

Virgo: September 15-October 14: This sign should expect a lot of focus and money spent on home, housing and education over the coming year. Also, this sign should expect to travel a great deal. Money should actually be good for this sign but there will be a lot of focus on securing the financial security. Friendships may change and luck, when it comes, will be sudden and require disruption to the person’s life. Although there may be some disputes about money, relationship life will be stable. The eclipses will actually give great possibility for fame and recognition. The January through March of 2018 will be good for financial resources. April through June will cause some focus on securing financial and property stability, July through September will produce financial growth and opportunities to gain through travel. October through December will produce increased detachment and separation from unneeded friendships.

Libra: October 15-November 14: Jupiter sits right in Libra for most of this year, so this sign will have plenty of opportunities for advancement and luck, but there is a temptation from this placement to take on new things impulsively and try to do too much, while missing details that can cause problems later on; it is a good year so long as opportunities are measured and planned. There will be disruptions at home, and at work with the nodes in the fourth and tenth houses, and there may even be scandals or loss of reputation if the individual is not careful, especially in February and August of 2018. The conjunction of the Sun in this sign and Jupiter along with the three planets in Sagittarius can cause dictatorial tendencies through the year. There will be extra money coming in, especially in May. Any promotions which occur this year may be short-lived. January through March of 2018 will mean a great deal of ambition and travel for this sign. April through June will produce more demands and possible overextension, and some anxiety at home. July through September will produce potential for breakthroughs occupationally, but be careful of a breakdown of structures in August which could unravel a lot of progress. October through December will be interesting months and may call for a retreat from the spotlight for a while.

Scorpio: November 15 - December 14: This sign will experience a lot of activity around money and property expenses this month. Also, the eclipse points in the chart are somewhat favorably placed—one in the ninth house of luck and the other in the third house of travels which are good points for these. However, there is a risk of travel-related problems for this sign at certain times of the year. Jupiter in the twelfth house is not good for making new money, but it is good for saving, but unexpected expenses will show up towards the end of the year. The placement of the Moon in the seventh house is good for relationship luck. January through March 2018 should be a lot of work pressure, but exercise caution traveling especially between February 15 and February 28. April through June should be a little less frantic but with a few expenses arising. July through September should be a very happy time, especially for relationship life. October through December should be good for spiritual growth, but impulse buying is a possibility.

Sagittarius: December 15 - January 14: This will probably be the most active sign this year, as the year starts with three major planets in this Sun sign. The placement of Mars and Jupiter in the eleventh house makes this an excellent year for this sign for financial gains, but there will be a lot of responsibility for this sign. The eclipses will not impact this sun sign very much. The Moon is in the sixth house exalted, so work life will be emphasized. The year from January to March will start with a lot of responsibilities and there will be some obstructions regarding money. April to June will give rise to some rivals or enemies but these will be eliminated quickly. July to September will provide new opportunities for growth. October to December will be a great period for financial progress.

Capricorn: January 15 - February 13: Like Cancer, this sign has the nodes actively engaged with the eclipse points this year, leaving it vulnerable to the variable fortunes brought on by the eclipses of February and August. This leaves a bit of uncertainty over direction for this sign, and some dissatisfaction over relationship life. The placement of the Moon in Taurus in the fifth house of luck gives good fortune and actually helps relationship life a great deal. Jupiter and Mars in the 10^th house is a great placement for career life. The difficulties come from Sagittarius in the twelfth house causing a lot of expenses for this sign, but these can be redirected for educational purposes. January through March will be a period of expenses. April to June will be a great chance to increase financial luck and relationship luck. July to September will be a good period for career expansion, and although there will be expenses at the end of the year, career life will expand dramatically between October and December 2018.

Aquarius: February 14 - March 14: This sign actually has a bit of an advantage this year. Several good planets (Sun, Venus, and Saturn) are placed in the eleventh house, giving financial gains to this sign and one’s relationship partners. There are also good planets in the ninth house or the chart and in the fourth house. Overall, although Sagittarius will be busier, this sign will have more overall luck than any sign this year. The placement of Ketu in the twelfth house and Rahu in the sixth house means eclipses will eliminate enemies and point this sign in a more spiritual direction. The only issue to be concerned about is stomach disorders. January through March will be a good period for planning expansion of activities. April through June will be very good for home and educational life through spring. July to September will be great for expansion of luck, although there can be some stomach disorders in August. October through December will be good for career and will also bring financial gains.

Pisces: March 15-April 14: This sign will be very work focused this year, as Sagittarius is the tenth house in this chart. The placement of Jupiter in the eleventh house is good for financial gains. The placement of the Moon in Taurus in the third house may show some hesitancy to take chances. The eclipses will be placed in the fifth house and eleventh house can cause some disruptions to luck during the year. January to March will provide increased opportunities to travel and advance career wise, but these will be tempered by caution. April to June will produce some disruptions to luck, but unexpected new interests will develop. July to September will produce increased financial luck, especially through relationship partners and business partners. October through December will produce good career options and will increase financial success for this sign at the end of the year.
